Caring for long-term care workers

The Essential Worker Healthcare Trust (EWHT) is a partnership between SEIU Local 503 and responsible long-term care employers. We work together to provide you and your family with excellent health insurance at a low cost. You may pick between two medical plan options, both designed by long-term care workers, for long-term care workers. The goal is to provide the care you and your family need with:

  • Free preventive care
  • Free generic drugs
  • Low deductible and out-of-pocket maximum

Open Enrollment

Open enrollment is the designated time each year when you can enroll or make changes in health insurance for the coming year. During open enrollment you can:

  • Enroll in a new plan. If you are eligible, you and your family can sign up for one of two excellent health insurance plans: Regence PPO or Kaiser Permanente HMO.
  • Make changes to your existing EWHT plan. During open enrollment, you can add or remove dependents from your plan. You can also switch from one health plan to another (for example, switch from Kaiser Permanente to Regence, or vice versa).

How to sign up or make changes to your coverage: Contact your employer or if your employer has a benefit portal, log in to your employee benefit portal to sign up for or make changes to your health plan for 2025.

Who is eligible: Contact your employer to confirm eligibility.

What it costs: Monthly premiums vary by employer. Contact your employer to confirm costs.

When to sign up or make changes to your coverage: Your window to sign up for or make changes to your health plan for 2025 depends on your employer. Check the schedule below.

Enrolling with Dependents

If you are adding dependents to your plan, you must complete the dependent verification process within 90 days of your dependent’s start of coverage. You’ll get a letter in the mail with instructions.

Visit the Dependent Verification page for detailed info and instructions.

Verify Your Enrollment!

The EWHT Member Portal is an online tool where you can verify your enrollment, upload and manage dependent verification documents, and access other key benefit documents. Visit Member Portal Sign In.

Open Enrollment Windows by Employer

Some employers require that you enroll each year in benefits while other employers carry over your coverage from year to year unless you tell them to stop. Once open enrollment ends, you will not be able to make changes until the next open enrollment unless certain events occur, called qualifying life events.
