Qualifying Life Events

Outside of Open Enrollment, there are limited exceptions, called a qualifying life event, that may allow you to enroll in a health plan. Examples of a qualifying life event include the birth of a child, adoption, marriage, death, divorce, in some cases a change of address, a change in your eligibility (for example going from part-time to fulltime), or the loss of other medical coverage.

If you have a midyear qualifying life event, your employer must notify the Essential Worker Healthcare Trust within 60 days of the event. Please notify your employer early so they have time to submit the change before the 60 day deadline.

If you have a qualifying life event, you may be eligible to:

  • Enroll in a new plan. You and your family may be able to sign up for one of two health insurance plans: Regence PPO or Kaiser Permanente HMO.
  • Make changes to your existing EWHT plan. You may be able to update your EWHT plan including adding or removing dependents or switching from one health plan to another (for example, from Kaiser Permanente to Regence, or vice versa).
