Special Open Enrollment
You can still enroll in a health insurance plan outside of the Open Enrollment period if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Outside Open Enrollment, there are limited exceptions, called a qualifying life event, that may allow you to enroll in healthcare coverage. For example, if you lost your coverage from a spouse’s plan or another employer, or you lost Medicaid coverage, you may be eligible to enroll outside Open Enrollment. SEPs last 60 days before or after the date of the qualifying life event, so if you believe you may be eligible for a SEP, speak with your employer right away.
